On this week’s “You’ve Got This,” I talk with Emirick Haro about the importance of helping our kids learn perseverance. Emirick is a mom of three busy boys, a happy wife, and an eighth grade math and science teacher. She also co-hosts a parenting podcast, Tired Moms, to discuss the joys and challenges of mom-ventures.
“Grit is the quality in a person to stay committed to a goal even when it starts to get hard and boring,” Emirick said. “It’s the quality to see things through and to push through the hardness without getting turned off by hard work. .. The number-one killer of grit I’ve noticed is when we tend to overpraise our children’s natural abilities, which gives our kids a false sense of invincibility for not even trying.”
Listen to the podcast for more insights and suggestions about giving our kids opportunities to strengthen their own grittiness.
